"The Dialectical Status of the Debate about Laws of Nature"

Abstract:

Despite their intuitive force, some prominent thought experiments against Humean theories of laws of nature have not been dialectically effective. Here I argue that recent arguments by Schaffer (2008) for Humeanism are also not compelling and can be resisted by the anti-Humean. I end with some reflections on the current status of the debate between Humeans and anti-Humeans regarding the metaphysics of laws of nature.
