HOTELES RECOMENDADOS
Hotel María Cristina
|
Our first suggestion is Hotel María Cristina. It has the better quality/price ratio, the best location, and has also an attractive architecture. It is at a 17 minutes walk from the Casa Universitaria del Libro. The nearest hotel to Casa Universitaria del Libro is the Hotel Puebla (four blocks in a straight line by Puebla Street), and it is also the most economical. It is a good hotel in an interesting non-touristical neighborhood. Hotels in the list are not expensive. If you prefer a really fancy or elegant hotel, there are some available in the area. One of the most traditional high quality hotels in Mexico is the María Isabel Hotel, now María Isabel Sheraton (http://www.sheratonmexicocitymariaisabel.com/). In several respects this is one of the hearts of the city, just at the Independence Monument. There you would be still at walking distance from the venue of the meeting (20-25 minutes walk). Then you have the Marriot Hotel, also in Paseo de la Reforma (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/mexmc-mexico-city-marriott-reforma-hotel/), somewhat nearer the venue of the meeting. There are plenty of hotels in the Pink Zone area: you can do a search widening first the map as shown in the website of the meeting, and locating yourself in the triangle formed by Insurgentes, Reforma, and Florencia (and a small segment of Chapultepec Avenue). |

For those of you who will stay at the Hotel María Cristina, there are two special suggestions for the evenings, just half block from the hotel, in Río Neva street: La federal, a fancy cantina with good food and drinks always at 2x1 (pay one and get two). For all: also in the Pink Zone area, there are a lot of places to eat well in the evenings. I mention just some: El Tapeo in Oslo street is a very good Spanish place for tapas and wine. La Casa de los Abuelos is a not so fancy place with very good Mexican dishes. There is another La Casa de Toño in Londres street near the corner with Amberes. But the offer in this Zone is truly vast. |
Mexico has a 911 service that can deal with all kind of emergencies. Here you have other numbers that might be useful, just in case:
Protección Civil: 55 5683 2222
Locatel: 55 5658 1111
Bomberos: 55 5768 3800
Cruz Roja (Red Cross): 911
Sistema de Aguas: 5654 3210
Please note: Telephone numbers in Mexico have always ten numbers, of which the first two or three are the prefix number of the city. Mexico City has the prefix 55. Prefix numbers are not used when calling within the same city. Long distance calls (from one prefix zone to another) add a long distance prefix, 01, in a regular number (044 within cell-phone numbers, and 045 from a regular to a cell-phone number).
Chances are you might need a place to print a text from a USB memory, or to make copies, or to use a computer, or buy a notebook or a pen or pencil. Well, there are several places just one block from the Casa Universitaria del Libro, in the corner of Puebla and Jalapa. Look for
Cafe Internet (Jalapa Street, just around the corner)
Cibercafe (Puebla Street)
Café Rom@ (Puebla Street, passing Jalapa to the left)
Important: You won’t find these kind of services inside the Casa Universitaria del Libro.
