CFP Special issue of Crítica: The Metaphysical Foundations of Physics

   Recent naturalistic approaches to metaphysics emphasize the need for the discipline to establish a direct connection with contemporary science—including, but not limited to, physics. To the extent that metaphysics is able to speak about what there is in the world, these philosophers claim, it should be informed by our best science—as it is the best we have when it comes to filtering out error from the claims about, and explanations of, our systematized experience. But can philosophical reflection and critique and systematization of the most fundamental concepts and theories also contribute to the foundations of physics? This special issue of Crítica is devoted to this question.
   Crítica is an international open-access journal of philosophy edited by the Institute of Philosophical Research (IIFs) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

Submission topics Submissions about topics like:

• the ontology of spacetime, gravitation, quantum and cosmological theories, 
• ontological problems in classical and statistical mechanics,
• problems of causation, individuation, laws, modality, emergence, objective probability, and symmetries,
• the relevance of logic and/or mathematical structures to understanding the ontology of physics,

and others that relate to foundational topics, as seen from an ontological point of view, will be welcomed.

Invited contributors Valia Allori (Northern Illinois University), Tim Maudlin (New York University), and Gustavo E. Romero (Argentinean Institue of Radioastronomy).

Deadline for submission May 25th, 2020.

Instructions for submission Papers should not exceed 8,000 words and should be submitted in either .tex or .doc format (preferably the former) to ckronosz@gmail.com. Please use «Crítica CFP» for the subject.
Authors must send two electronic versions of their manuscripts. One should include the author’s name, title of contribution, e-mail address, postal address (including phone number); a 1 second version should be prepared for anonymous refereeing, where all references to the author including acknowledgements and bibliographical details are omitted. Both versions must include the title, an abstract (100 words maximum) and five keywords not mentioned in the title. Whenever possible the latter should also be sent in Spanish.
Acceptable languages are English and Spanish.

Convocatoria para artículos Edición especial de Crítica:
Los Fundamentos Metafísicos de la Física

    Los recientes enfoques naturalistas sobre la metafísica enfatizan la necesidad de que la disciplina establezca una conexión directa con la ciencia contemporánea —incluida, entre otras, la física. En la medida en que la metafísica sea capaz de hablar sobre lo que hay en el mundo, afirman estos filósofos, debería hacerlo informada por nuestra mejor ciencia —ya que esta es lo mejor que tenemos para filtrar el error de las afirmaciones sobre, y explicaciones de, nuestra experiencia sistematizada. Pero, ¿pueden la reflexión, crítica y sistematización filosóficas de los conceptos y teorías más fundamentales, contribuir también a los fundamentos de la física? Este número especial de Crítica está dedicado a esta pregunta.
    Crítica es una revista internacional de filosofía de acceso libre, editada por el Instituto de Investigaciones Filosóficas (IIFs) en la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

Temas de los artículos Envíos sobre temas como:

• la ontología de las teorías del espacio-tiempo, la gravitación, cuánticas y cosmológicas,
• problemas ontológicos en la mecánica clásica y estadística,
• problemas sobre la causalidad, la individuación, las leyes, la modalidad, la emergencia, la probabilidad, y las simetrías,
• la relevancia de la lógica y/o las estructuras matemáticas para entender la ontología de la física,

y otros que se relacionen con los temas de fundamentos, vistos desde un punto de vista ontológico, serán recibidos.

Instrucciones para los envíos Los artículos no deben exceder las 8,000 palabras y deben enviarse en formato .tex o .doc (preferiblemente el primero) a ckronosz@gmail.com; por favor use «Crítica CFP» para el asunto.
Los autores deben enviar dos versiones electrónicas de sus manuscritos. Uno debe incluir el nombre del autor, título de la contribución, dirección de correo electrónico, dirección postal (incluido el número de teléfono); se debe preparar una segunda versión para el arbitraje anónimo, donde se omitan todas las referencias al autor, incluidos los agradecimientos y los detalles bibliográficos. Ambas versiones deben incluir el título, un resumen (máximo de 100 palabras) y cinco palabras clave no mencionadas en el título. Si el texto está en inglés, esto último también debe enviarse en español.
Los idiomas aceptables son inglés y español.
